It’s easy and common to think of rest as simply a break from work or an afternoon nap. However, rest is much more than just physical recovery. As Christians, we are reminded in Scripture that rest is not just for the body, but for the mind, heart, senses, and spirit as well. God designed us originally in a state of “shalom” (being whole, with no unmet needs). After the fall of man, now we feel the need for rest—something that is vital not only to our physical health but also to our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
